the Position Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse

weeks Shift: Full-time day or night shift (3x12s) scheduled as
needed plus every other weekend and holidays, with 2 on-call shifts
per 4-week period Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of
two years of acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse, with
at least one year in an Emergency Department setting. License:
Valid RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke
Certification Must-Have: - Two years of experience as a Registered
Nurse, with at least one year in an Emergency Department
Description: The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies
knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in
delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and
families. The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or
emergent care priorities, and collaboratively provides direct care.
They apply appropriate interventions and evaluate patient progress.
The ED RN demonstrates skill in the use of various invasive and
non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions.
They manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations
effectively. The ED RN utilizes principles of relationship-based
care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain,
discomfort, and safety. They assess the physiological,
psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age
groups and their families. The ED RN connects with patients and
families during triage and identifies the initial management of
patients based on established triage standards. They establish
rapport, address comfort needs, listen carefully, and assess
nonverbal communication. Frequent updates are provided to patients
and families about their care process. The ED RN conducts primary
assessments of critical needs and documents significant deviations
from norms. They identify necessary steps and interventions
required for patient care. Using direct observation and
patient/family interviews, the ED RN conducts secondary
assessments. They identify contributing factors, health history,
and activities preceding the emergent health event. The ED RN
assesses psychosocial needs and documents any suspicions of
domestic violence or abuse. They reassess patients to evaluate
responses to treatment and changes in condition, responding
appropriately. Encouragement of mutual trust, respect, and
cooperation among team members is essential to achieve the best
patient outcome. The ED RN teaches others as appropriate and
delegates tasks and interventions consistent with their education
and training. They understand the importance of complying with
infection prevention strategies to safeguard public safety. The ED
RN prepares patients, parents, or families for diagnostic
procedures and treatments. They make appropriate referrals for
post-emergency care and educate patients on continued care at home.
Assessment of patient and family learning styles occurs to maximize
understanding during education sessions. The ED RN evaluates
retention of key points in education and discharge instructions
through questioning. They seek to understand what is most important
to patients and families, acknowledging that they are the central
focus of care and services. Creating a healing environment is
emphasized as a key element of professional nursing practice. The
ED RN maintains awareness of the patient's condition throughout the
emergency visit and keeps patients and significant others informed.
They anticipate patient and family needs, including notifying the
support system about the patient’s care. Patient communication
boards are updated throughout the emergency department stay.
