Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical/Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Full Time Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week, includes rotational day/night/weekend/holidays Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a Medical/Surgical environment as a Registered Nurse License: New York State Registered Nurse Licensure Certifications: BLS, ACLS (AHA or RQI only), NIHSS Must-Have: - Minimum of 1 year experience serving in a Medical/Surgical environment as a Registered Nurse - BLS and ACLS certifications required Description: The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient needs and develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. He/She provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates the care delivery throughout the patient's episode. The Registered Nurse develops specialized skills in the area of patients admitted for medical conditions. He/She provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions. The Registered Nurse is accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a healing environment. The role includes applying nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care. The nurse assesses patient and family needs through active listening and social perceptiveness. He/She analyzes data obtained through observation, assessment, technology, or health team communication. A developmentally and culturally relevant individualized plan of care is created to address the patient’s health problems. In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, he/she sets goals and monitors patient progress. The Registered Nurse adjusts the plan based on patient response or change in condition. The nurse promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient. He/She encourages mutual trust and cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. The nurse teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with the individual’s education and training. He/She understands the importance of safeguarding public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies. The Registered Nurse motivates the patient and family by teaching them what is needed for continued care and healing at home. He/She assesses the patient and family learning styles and structures sessions to maximize understanding. Teachable moments during the care delivery process are sought to emphasize key information. The nurse documents education provided and patient and family response to the education. He/She systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of Nursing Practice and uses results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in practice. The Registered Nurse engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas for professional development. He/She takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skills. The practice reflects the importance of making a meaningful connection with patients and families. The nurse seeks to develop a trusting and caring relationship through effective communication and engagement. He/She strives to understand the needs of the patient and family, acknowledging them as the central focus of care and services. The importance of creating a healing environment is embraced as a key element of professional nursing practice. The Registered Nurse demonstrates skills in the application of interventions, including medication administration.
