in the Emergency Department Description: The Emergency Department
Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical
skills, and communication skills in delivering high-quality
compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses
patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and
provides direct care collaboratively. They apply appropriate
interventions and evaluate patient progress. The ED RN demonstrates
skill in various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments,
and therapeutic interventions to manage life-threatening and
routine emergency situations. Utilizing relationship-based care
principles, the ED RN alleviates anxiety, provides information, and
addresses pain, discomfort, and safety. They assess physiological,
psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients across all
age groups and their families. The ED RN connects with patients and
families during triage and identifies initial management and
priority of care in accordance with Triage Standards. They
establish rapport with patients and families, address comfort
needs, and provide frequent updates. Conducting primary
assessments, the ED RN documents deviations from norms for all age
groups within acceptable time frames. They correctly identify
necessary interventions required and utilize observations and data
to conduct secondary assessments. The ED RN identifies contributing
factors, health history, and events preceding health emergencies.
They assess psychosocial needs, document, and report any suspicions
of domestic violence or abuse in all age groups. Reassessments are
conducted to identify patient responses to treatment. The ED RN
encourages mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team
members to attain optimal patient outcomes. They teach and delegate
tasks appropriate to the individual's education, training, and
scope of practice. Understanding their responsibility, the ED RN
safeguards public safety through compliance with infection
prevention strategies. They prepare patients and families for
diagnostic procedures and treatments. The ED RN makes appropriate
referrals for post-emergency care and teaches patients what is
needed for home care and healing. They assess learning styles and
structure educational sessions to maximize understanding. Knowledge
