Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department Observation Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Nursing Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 3x12.0 Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Two years of Med/Surg Experience License: RN License (New York ONLY) Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association ONLY), NIHSS (Preferred), ACLS (AHA ONLY) Must-Have: RN License (New York ONLY), BLS Certification, Two years Experience Description: The Observation unit cares for adult patients needing additional observation to determine if the patient's condition is serious enough for admission to the hospital or if the patient can be treated and released home safely. The unit operates in a very fast-paced environment, turning over 20 to 27 patients per day, with an average length of stay of 27 hours. There is 24/7 provider coverage on the unit. Care is provided for a diverse adult population, including both emergency observation and admitted boarding patients. Patients will range from short stay to full admissions. The role requires the ability to adapt to changing situations and maintain a high standard of patient care. Timely and effective communication with the healthcare team and patients is essential. Candidates must be able to work days, evenings, nights, rotating shift schedules, and be on call as needed. Charge duties may be required during shifts.
